    Clintwood Softball

Congratulations to Clintwoods softball team in getting there 1st ever win over there fellow Dickenson Co. team the Haysi Tigers.

I have to say it is nice to see the progress the program has made over the years (the 1st year I remember my wife telling me about several girls Turing to use slow pitch bats and borrowing catching equipment from the Little league baseball team (and at least once from the team that they were playing)

It was not so many years ago that keeping a game within 10 runs was a moral victory for the lady wave and to lose by 20+ runs was not unheard of

And it was only last season that Clintwood even got a softball field for (Before that They would travel to Clinchco for home games and practice and before that they used the Little league Baseball field pitching mound and all)

I am NOT saying Clintwood is or will be a powerhouse this season but over the last 2 years they have become a competitive team and I think finishing in the top half of the district is now a realistic goal.....

Everytime a program like Clintwood's makes strides,we all win as the league just gets better. They truly have made some big strides over there.

    Very impressive.

I spoke with Darrell Poston a couple of weeks ago and he acted like that his girls were going to be pretty good this season so this is an excellent win for the Lady Wave.

Did the Hillman girl pitch Counts?
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

    Re: Clintwood Softball

I have watched this program for years and umpired several of their games. I started seeing a vast improvement in them about 3 years ago. I thought they would pull a few upsets then and they did. They have always played with a lot of heart and pride. Good luck to them and their quest this season.

Haysi has been a force in the region for years. To see the Wave bring it to them is good. Now, they don't need to lose their focus.

Yes Hillman pitched and looked good, the D looked good backing her up as well.....Clintwood is currently starting 2 Freshmen in the infield so they should do nothing but get better with more playing time (but will make some freshmen mistakes alone the way as well)
